I have a R93 in 7mm rem mag. I have a right hand bolt carrier and magnum bolt head that I have been using since I have owned the gun. I recently purchased second hand a left hand bolt carrier and magnum bolt head. The left hand bolt head is quite a different shape on the outside diameter at the front of the bolthead, outside of where the case head is held. It seems very odd for the two parts to be a different shape when they are made to be interchangeable in the same rifle/barrel. Both bolt heads appear to be genuine Blaser parts from the stamp on them. I hope you can see what I mean from photos. Any advice on reasons for difference and if left hand bolthead without such a taper on the end will be safe to use in my rifle would be much appreciated

It looks like from your photos that you may have one R93 bolt head and one R8 bolt head. They are not interchangeable.
Have you tried them in your rifle?

If you bought the LH bolt housing with that bolt head, I bet it is not a R93 bolt housing either.

Thanks for your responses. I have bought the LH bolt housing separately to the bolthead. I have been using the RH bolt head in the LH housing for a while and all working fine. The LH bolt head in question is the same as my original in dimensions in all areas except the taper at the front. It fits fine into the bolt housing and the action will close up without resistance feeling the same as my original RH bolt head. I am yet to fire it with the LH bolt head as it is different and wanted to gain any experienced advice off here before doing so.

Must be the angle of your photos that makes it look much bigger to me.

I have the same kind of question. I bought a .22-250 Blaser R8 barrel, magazine insert and associated bolt head to exchange with the usual .300 Win Mag. It all fits well, but there seems to be a difference between a right-hand and a left-hand bolt head. Does anyone know the difference and if it matters or not?

If it fits everywhere, chambers and ejects, it should work ok. It should be marked accordingly too.

It fits fine and I did not even think about there being a difference between a left-hand and a right-hand bolt head, so did not specifically order a left-hand bold head and even wonder if the Magnum size bold head I normally use for the 300 WinMag is even a left-hand bolt head.
Why would they even make left-hand AND right-hand bolt heads on such round devices? Confusing.

Found this info:
CAUTION: • The right bolt head ejects the shell or cartridge to the right and the description with the calibre group is marked with an „R“. • The left bolt head ejects the shell or cartridge to the left and the description with the calibre group is marked with an „L“. • Bolt head marked „L“ should be inserted into the left side of the bolt assembly, bolt head marked „R“ into the right side of the bolt assembly only.

So it seems that the different bolt heads have an effect on the side at which the empty shell is thrown out of the chamber: left side or right side. Seems like I have a right hand ST bolt head in a left-hand rifle. All I can think of is that the empty shells will pop out on the right instead of the left. Any problems anticipated with this?
