Blaser unveiled several new and interesting products at the Safari Club International (SCI)Annual Convention in Reno, Nevada last week in advance of the SHOT Show.
The first was a new steel receiver version of the R93. It brings the balance slightly aft and adds a bit more weight for the high recoiling guns.
The second, and most exciting product for a serious prairie dog shooters, is the new R93 Varmint. Mating the R93 LRS barrel with a wide and flat bottomed forearm equipped with an accessory rail allowing the use of standard hand-stops, bi-pods or gun mounted lights. The butt stock has an adjustable cheek-piece and the receiver has an all black finish. This rifle is currently offered in all of the caliber's that are standard in the R93 LRS and myself and several other shooters lobbied the Blaser factory representatives for the addition of the new 204 Ruger with a faster twist barrel that will allow the use of some of the heavier bullets available from the custom shops.
A third variation was a special run of 100 SCI special engraved R93 guns, they will be two barrel sets (calibers of the customers choice) complete with optics. Geared for worldwide hunting, they will make great SCI Chapter fundraiser guns.
My sources at the factory also shared with me exciting new plans for unusual caliber's to be offered in both the R93 and K95 single shot. More to follow on that later, as for now I am sworn to secrecy.
The last news coming out of Germany is that a prototype 20 Gauge S2 barrel set is finished, the potential to use your double rifle for bird hunting has great merit, hopefully it will be offered to the public in the near future, no decision as of yet has been made on production.
