"SCI Convention Report, 2006"

The annual SCI Hunters Convention in Reno Nevada was held January 18-21, 2006. As always, it was a hunter’s dream land.

The Sig folks had a great display of both Blaser and Mauser rifles at their booth.

Here are a few Blaser news updates. First off, the new R93 Stutzen was on hand. What a great handling compact rifle this is going to be. This particular R93 rifle had some of the most unique figures in the wood. The octagon barrel and low profile sights are a great touch.

Several versions of the new F3 shotgun were on hand, including both sporting and field versions, along with variations of the K-95’s, D99 Drilling and D95’s combo guns.

Sig reps also filled me in on plans to offer rimfire conversions for the R93 in both .22 and .17 caliber versions. They will incorporate a rimfire modified bolt face, rimfire barrel and rimfire magazines. This system will allow us to shoot inexpensive practice ammo with our big game rifles. I can hardly wait to get one. Given Blaser’s legendary accuracy, these rifles may even be competitive in rimfire silhouette competition and perhaps even BR50.

This year, Sig will place further market emphasis on the entry-level R93’s the Offroad and Professional versions. It is my humble opinion that they will sell like hotcakes to any rifleman who has the virtues of this R93 system explained to him

This year’s SCI Auction gun, a 375H&H R93 with custom engraving for the convention, a true one off custom gun, sold for over $10,500.00. Some proud owner will take this truly investment grade rifle home for years of enjoyment.

I wish I knew who coined the phrase; “Life is too short to hunt with an ugly gun…”
